Step inside the world of a legend—on stage, on the road, and in motion.
On the Road with Duke Ellington offers a rare, intimate portrait of Duke Ellington at the height of his creative power. Filmed just six years before his passing, this documentary captures Ellington in rehearsal, in performance, and in candid moments that reveal the brilliance, discipline, and quiet magnetism behind one of the most influential artists of the 20th century.
Following the screening, Mercedes Ellington—director, choreographer, and founder of The Duke Ellington Center for the Arts—shares personal insight into her grandfather’s life and legacy, and her ongoing work preserving his vision. The conversation is moderated by David Schroeder, Jazz Historian, author, media creator, educator, and musician, who served as Director of the NYU Jazz Studies Program at NYU Steinhardt, providing historical context on Ellington’s enduring impact.
