David Baker conducted the Smithsonian Jazz Masterworks Orchestra, and Mercedes Ellington was the director of choreography.  The actors included Avery Brooks, David Costable, and Helen Carey.  They performed several scenes from various plays that were directed by Doug Wager.  Darby Dizard and Marion Cowings wrote lyrics for and performed three movements as songs.  Four movements were made into dances.  Christopher Cherney wrote any new music that was needed, as well as specifying any modifications to the original music.  It was a magical evening that promises great things to come.
