Kent Drake
Kent Drake was born, raised and educated in New York City. He still calls it home.
At the age of seventeen, Kent began a career in show business as a singer. It was through the influence of Dinah Washington that he later pursued a career in the recording industry. Kent studied movement for stage presence with the famous team of Honi Coles and Cholly Atkins. Through this association Kent landed a job at te Apollo as house Master of Ceremonies, singing, dancing, and hosting all the major shows there.
During the days of the famous Palladium Ballroom Kent became a celebrated dancer in the Latin dance community. The circuit reached from Club Harlem in Atlantic City to the resorts in the Borscht Belt of the Catskill Mountains.
Mr Drake has recorded on the Jubilee, Septor, Columbia and Mercury labels. He served with the Armed Forces in Europe as Assistant Choral Master of an all male a cappella choir, and entertainment director for the Third Infantry Division Special Services. In these capacities he travelled throughout Europe performing on television and radio and in live concerts.
Kent works as a vocal coach and still performs occasionally. He now enjoys careers as a muralist and a published fine artist. His own art publishing company is called Man-Drake, Ltd.
Kent is on the Board of the Society of Singers.
